Climate Change - The Big Ask

Friends of the Earth's priority right now is tackling climate change. The UK government's Climate Change Bill is currently being considered by the House of Commons, and while we welcome the Bill, it does not go far enough. We need to ensure that the Bill is strong enough - committing the government to cut emissions enough to prevent catastrophic climate change. It also needs to include international aviation and shipping - these are fast-growing sources of carbon dioxide and leaving them out would be like going on a calorie-controlled diet, but ignoring calories from chocolate!

How can you help?

Write to your MP asking him or her to support amendments to the Bill

  • for the 2050 emissions reduction target to be 80% rather than 60% and
  • for the emissions from international aviation and shipping to be included.

Friends of the Earth's Big Ask website makes it really easy to contact your MP about the Climate Change Bill. Or use the website www.writetothem.com - simply type in your postcode to find your MP and then write an email to them.
